How to Order Custom Printed Fabric

Five steps from artwork to finished yardage.

1

Prepare your design file

Export your artwork as TIF (.tif) for best results. JPG, PSD, and PNG are also accepted. If unsure it is print-ready, note your intended production scale so our team can verify it.

2

Confirm rights to the artwork

Ensure you have the legal right to reproduce the design. Have a copyright registration number, pending registration, or licensing receipt available if requested.

3

Choose your fabric

Select Poly Linen, Poly Poplin, or Peach Skin (45"-60"), or supply your own ground fabric.

4

Order a strike off

Approve a printed sample first. A $150 non-refundable deposit applies; the strike off returns in 3-5 business days for your color and scale approval.

5

Approve and go to production

Once color and scale are approved, bulk production runs in 7-10 business days.

Design File Submission

Send us the right file and your project starts without a hitch.

Preferred format: TIF (.tif) — preserves the most color and detail for printing.
Also accepted: JPG (.jpg), PSD (.psd), and PNG (.png).

Not sure it's print-ready? Provide your intended production scale or size and our team will review and verify the file before printing.

Strike Off Approval

We never run bulk before you approve a real printed sample.

A strike off is a printed sample produced so you can approve color and scale before full production. A $150.00 non-refundable deposit is required, and the strike off returns in 3-5 business days from file submission. Once you approve color and scale, bulk production runs in 7-10 business days.

Artwork Rights & Licensing

Printing your design means confirming it's yours to print.

By supplying a design, you confirm you have the legal right to use and reproduce the artwork. Random orders may be asked to provide one of the following:

  • Copyright registration number
  • Pending copyright registration number
  • Licensing purchase receipt (for example, Etsy or Shutterstock)

A signature of release will be required.

Color Matching Existing Production

Reprinting a design? The more we have, the closer the match.

If color matching is required, please provide:

  • Original production file
  • Actual production cutting / sample
  • Original PFP (Prepared-for-Print) fabric used in production, if available
Please note: we cannot guarantee a 100% color match. The materials you provide help determine the color corrections and adjustments required during matching.

Important: Damages & Shortages

On any purchase order, expect that up to 5% of the fabric may have damages. Any shortage received cannot be honored as a claim against Islands Fabric.

Frequently Asked Questions

The questions customers ask most before ordering custom printed fabric.

What file format do you need for custom fabric printing?
The preferred file format is TIF (.tif). We also accept JPG (.jpg), PSD (.psd), and PNG (.png). TIF is preferred because it preserves the most color and detail for print reproduction.
What is the turnaround time for custom printed fabric?
Bulk production takes 7-10 business days from the date your color and scale are approved. A strike off for approval takes 3-5 business days from the date the file is submitted.
What fabrics can Islands Fabric print on?
We print on Poly Linen, Poly Poplin, and Peach Skin, available in 45-inch to 60-inch widths.
What is a strike off and how much does it cost?
A strike off is a printed sample produced for your approval before bulk production. It confirms color and scale. A non-refundable deposit of $150.00 is required for the strike off, and turnaround is 3-5 business days from file submission.
Do I need to own the rights to my design?
Yes. By supplying a design you confirm you have the legal right to use and reproduce the artwork. Random orders may be asked to provide one of: a copyright registration number, a pending copyright registration number, or a licensing purchase receipt (for example from Etsy or Shutterstock). A signature of release is required.
How do I know if my file is print-ready?
If you are unsure whether your file is print-ready, provide the intended production scale or size and our team will review and verify the file for you.
Do you guarantee an exact color match?
We cannot guarantee a 100% color match. For color matching of previously produced designs, providing the original production file, an actual production cutting or sample, and the original PFP (Prepared-for-Print) fabric helps us determine the corrections needed during matching.
Can Islands Fabric create or modify a design for me?
Yes. If you would like our team to create or modify a design based on your motif, provide Pantone color references and/or high-resolution reference images.
Can I supply my own ground fabric?

What is your policy on fabric damage or shortage?
On any purchase order, expect that up to 5% of the fabric may have damages. Any shortage received cannot be honored as a claim against Islands Fabric.
